Sewing - Beginner Class

Sewing - Beginner Class

Learn the fundamental principals of machine sewing while working through the process of making a lined tote bag with pockets. Everything you learn can be directly applied to making your own clothes, so if that’s your end goal, this is the perfect place to start!

You’ll leave with a sense of accomplishment after creating a professional looking bag, but more importantly, you’ll leave with the skills and confidence to go home and tackle your own projects, as well as the knowledge to troubleshoot machine issues that may arise.

Small classes ensure plenty of one-on-one instruction.

 The class includes:

·      Winding a bobbin and threading a sewing machine

·      Techniques for sewing strait, and for professional-looking topstitching

·      Laying out and cutting a pattern (paper patterns will be provided for you to take home so you can make more bags on your own)

·      Tricks for perfect corners

·      Creating and applying patch pockets

·      Proper seam finishing techniques

·      The importance of pressing and prepping pieces before sewing (very important for when you’re making garments!)

All materials to make a cotton/linen blend tote will be provided as well as patterns so you can make other bags on your own after class.Sewing machines are provided, but if you have your own that you prefer to work with, even better-- bring it along!
