* Please note that we will not teach wheel throwing or hand-building in this course. Participants must have a skill level in ceramics to produce 4-6 pieces in the allotted time.

* Students are given an additional 6 hours of bench time to be used before May 14th, to make and finish their pieces for the Barrel firing.

* Last Bisque fire for Barrel firing will be Thursday May 16th-pieces must be bone dry by then.

Sunday, May 19th – the day of Barrel firing (outside of studio) - prepare for an all day, very active event. The workshop can last up to 6 hours and starts at 10am. The barrel will be left to cool until next weekend.

Tuesday, May 21st – class used to finish up all pieces for the Raku firing. Students are given an additional 3 hours of bench time to be used between May 14th and 21st to make and finish their pieces for the Raku firing.

* Last Bisque fire for Raku firing will be Thursday May 23rd-pieces must be bone dry by then.

Sunday, May 26th – the day of Raku firing (outside of studio) - prepare for an all day, very active event. This workshop can last anywhere between 5-8 hours and starts at 10am. It can take roughly 1 hour for the initial firing to get from 0-1,875 degrees in the Raku kiln. Typically within a one day workshop we can re-fire the kiln as many as 4-6 times to fulfill the requirements for the workshop size.

* Pieces will be glazed at the location on the day of the workshop. AlterWork has a large variety of Raku glazes for all participants to use.

* AlterWork Studios will provide safety gear for the workshop, however, participants should arrive wearing proper attire such as long sleeves, long pants, no open toe shoes and long hair should be pulled back. For sanitary reasons, participants should bring their own respirators and face masks if they wish to use them although this is not required.

* Simple lunch will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring a potluck donation.

* There is limited parking so carpooling or public transportation is strongly suggested.

* All participants will be required to lend a helping hand in setting up and breaking down the raku facility, and participate in the overall clean-up after the workshop.
