The staff at AlterWork Studios is comprised of two roles; Studio Assistants and Studio Technicians. Each role has its own responsibilities and benefits. Prior experience is not required. Training will be provided. The outline below goes over the responsibilities of each position. 


become a studio assistant…

SA’s are tasked with the general maintenance and day-to-day operations of the studio. Responsibilities include:

  • Answering the phone, answering the doorbell, greeting visitors.

  • Cleaning the bathrooms/nook.

  • Mopping up spills/messes; wiping down work surfaces.

  • Measuring student and member pieces for firing. 

  • Setting up/cleaning up the darkroom when rented.

  • Basic clay recycling; re-filling student clay buckets.

The SA role is available in three tiers based on time commitment. In exchange for working in the space the allotted amount of time, Studio Assistants receive:

3 hours per week

  • Discounted membership rate of $150/month

  • Keyed access from
    7am-midnight

  • Standard storage shelf
    (18”x 36” x 16”)

  • FREE Firing Fees for items less than 12”

  • FREE class registration

6 hours per week

  • Keyed access from 7am-midnight

  • 10% off classes/workshops

  • FREE Firing Fees for items less than 12”


(Standard storage shelf 18” x 36” x 16” can be rented for $25/month)

9 hours per week

  • Keyed access from 7am-midnight

  • 20% off classes/workshops

  • Large storage shelf (20”x36 ”x 16”)

  • FREE Firing Fees for items less than 12”

  • Studio Tech in training

 

become a studio technician…

Along with the tasks listed above, Studio Technicians are responsible for specialized tasks: They include:

  • Loading and unloading kilns; preparing kiln shelves.

  • Mixing glazes.

  • Running the pug mill.

  • In-depth clay recycling.

In exchange for working in the space 9 hours per week, Studio Technicians receive:

  • Keyed access from 7am-midnight (for all workspaces including woodshop and darkroom)

  • 20% off classes/workshops (free classes when seats are available)

  • Occasional opportunities for complimentary outside training covered by studio

  • Large storage shelf (20” x 36” x 16”)

  • Free Firing Fees for items under 12”
