safe space

It is our goal to be an excellent and available workspace; a safe space of equity, respect, belonging and support for all who are seriously and sincerely interested in any of the branches of the arts. All studio artists and visitors are expected to act in a manner that promotes the wellbeing of our welcoming and creative community.

We consider diversity a source of strength, which contributes to a positive, creative, and educational space. AlterWork Studios is located on the Ground Floor of 40-20 22nd Street, Long Island City, NY 11101. We are located on the west side of 22nd street between 40th and 41st avenues. When arriving, use the black touch screen to the left of the door to ring for AlterWork Studios in the Directory. Once inside, the studio is located down the stairs on the left.

AlterWork Studios is located 10 minutes from Midtown Manhattan in Long Island City's growing art community sharing the neighborhood with Kaufman Arts District, Flux Factory, Museum of the Moving Image, Socrates Sculpture Park, Isamu Noguchi Museum, Kaufman Astoria Studios, MoMA PS1, Chocolate Factory Theater, and a vibrant community of shops, bars and restaurants.

transportation

Limited Street parking is available. Public transportation is recommended. There are multiple Citi Bike stations within walking distance of the studio. The Q66 and Q69 bus lines run along 21st street. The nearest train stations include Queensboro Plaza, Queens Plaza, and 21st Street Queensbridge. Accessible subway lines include the N, W, R, M, E, F, and 7.

tours

Tours with a studio assistant are available any day between 12PM and 9PM. Studio tours are not available when the studio is closed during holidays (see calendar below). If you have specific questions about membership or gallery rental, it is recommended that you schedule a tour with the Studio Manager. Use the “Inquire” button to reach out and schedule.
