“Smile on 3”

The AlterWork Studios curatorial team invites you to experience our next gallery exhibition. We are pleased to present “Smile on 3”, an exhibit featuring 19 artists whose work is rooted in portrait photography. Portraiture has the capacity to tell multiple stories, traversing a wide range of themes and perspectives. Once rooted in rigid, formal documentation reserved for the privileged, it has evolved into a dynamic and expressive practice that reflects both artist and subject. Contemporary works move beyond standardized poses to explore concepts of identity, representation, cultural iconography, and social commentary. The diversity of subjects and settings affords portraiture the space to convey layered narratives, challenge societal norms, amplify marginalized voices, and continually redefine the boundaries of self-expression.

Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, May 30th from 6-9PM. The exhibit will be on view every day from 12-9PM until 6/21.
