Intermediate Ceramics (Hand-building & Wheel) - Tuesdays 6-9PM
This is an intermediate course that combines the wheel, hand-building, finishing and glazing techniques.
This 6-week course will demonstrate various techniques used to create ceramic art, exploring hand-building with slabs, pinch pots and coils, finishing and manipulating wheel thrown pieces, various decorative techniques such as carving, sgrafitto, mishima and nerikomi and go more in depth with glazing.
Students are encouraged to come up with their own projects and challenge themselves with forms they need help with. Numerous lessons will come up through everyone’s various projects such as teapots, buildings, sculpture or any other unique ideas that students wish to tackle.
This course is best suited as an ongoing basis for ceramic students who are capable of working independently and want to expand their skill set.
**Please note that you do not need to know how to use a wheel in order to participate, but if you are a beginner on the wheel, you will NOT be taught how to use a wheel in this class. Please take the beginner level course instead. Students who want to use the wheel must know the basics of throwing, must be able to control clay and throw basic shapes with intention.
Includes clay and glazes, all tools, storage and 18 hours of additional studio bench time.
Firing Fees are paid separately prior to firing. The firing fees are 5 cents per cubic inch for items under 8” and 6 cents cents per cubic inch for items over 8”. Firing fees include both the bisque and glaze firing of each piece.
