Clothing Repair & Reinvention Lab: The Gentle Art of Not Throwing Things Away
Repair & Reinvention Lab is a hands-on workshop where participants bring a forgotten or damaged garment and transform it through creative textile interventions. Combining simple alterations, upcycling, visible mending, appliqué, and expressive stitching, the workshop teaches both practical repair and artistic reinvention. Participants learn how to diagnose a garment, identify possibilities, and execute meaningful interventions that restore, reimagine, or completely transform the piece. The workshop blends sustainability, creativity, and personal expression, encouraging participants to see clothing as a site of memory, identity, and artistic potential.
Techniques Covered include:
Machine Threading: How to thread and set up the sewing machine with confidence.
Simple Alterations: Adjustments that change fit, proportion, and silhouette.
Visible Mending: Repair as design, bold stitches, patches, and expressive fixes.
Easy Appliqués: Cut, place, and stitch shapes or fabric layers for immediate impact.
Seam Removal: How to open seams safely to rebuild or transform a garment.
Decorative Stitching: Lines, textures, and details that add personality to any piece.
Creative Upcycling: Intuitive actions that turn discarded materials into new work.
